How About Your Own Padded Room?

Maybe there are days when a padded room seems like a good idea, but our topic concerns padding the floor of your workspace.

Anti-fatigue Mat

  • It's kinder on your feet than bare hard floors.
  • Your legs and back will thank you at the end of the day.
  • Dropped tools are more likely to escape damage.
  • Mats can be taken with you if you change your location.

Anti-fatigue mats come in a variety of styles. Interior construction of a closed face mat is likely either foam or flex pocket, and each does a fine job of cushioning. Closed face style is desirable because:

  • Clean up is easy since you don't have to chase hair or liquid spills into cavities.
  • There are no holes for dropped tools to fall thru onto the hard floor underneath.

Open face mats are just that; they have holes or spaces in them. Open face style is desirable because:

  • They are great in a wet environment.
  • There is no top layer to wear out.

Anti-fatigue mats are available as area mats, rolls, or they can be modular. Area mats and rolls cover a fixed area depending on the original size of the mat, while modular styles can be size-adjusted by adding or subtracting modules.

The price? Figure on about $5 to $20 a sq. ft.
